Coming off their successful home invitational last Saturday, the LSU women’s and men’s cross country teams placed first and third, respectively, at the McNeese Cowboy Stampede on Saturday.
The weekend outing gave both squads their third consecutive top-five finish of the season.
The Lady Tigers piled up 34 points to clinch first place, and Tulane finished 20 points behind them.
McNeese State shined in its home event as the men’s side with placed first with 31 points. The third-place Tigers finished with 73 points, 42 points behind the Cowboys.
Senior runner Andria Aguilar finished first overall, crossing the finish line at 17 minutes, 17.4 seconds. Junior Morgan Schuetz took the third-place spot with a time of 17 minutes and 27.7 seconds.
Sophomore Chaiss Matthews and freshman Andrea Maxwell both finished in the top 10 for the Lady Tigers. Matthews finished ninth with a time of 18:11.6, while Maxwell placed 10th with a time of 18:17.4. Sophomore Ashley Welborn followed Maxwell and finished two seconds behind for 11th place.
For the men, senior Philip Primeaux led the Tigers for the third consecutive meet, crossing the finish line at 19:29.2 for a second-place finish.
Junior Travis Pope placed seventh with a time of 19:48.4. Junior Bryan Mutell finished in the top 20, clocking 20:17.7 for 17th place .
The teams will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas, to compete in the Chile Pepper Festival at Agri Park Cross Country Course. The men will begin at 9:45 a.m., followed by the women at 10:15 a.m.
