The LSU men’s and women’s cross country teams won the LSU Invitational at Highland Road Park in Baton Rouge on Satuday.
The men’s team accounted for seven of the top 10 finishes, while the women accounted for six of the top 10. Both teams competed in the 5k course.
The Tiger’s top five finishes added up to 18 points, which was enough to hold off Southeastern Lions who came in second place with 72 points. The Lady Lions also came in second-place with 77 points, behind the Lady Tigers with a score of 22.
Senior Philip Primeaux lead the men’s team with a first-place finish after completing the course in 15 minutes and 16.92 seconds. Junior Morgan Schuetz finished in first-place with a time of 18 minutes and 15.14 seconds for the Lady Tigers.
Crossing the line in second-place for the Tigers with a time of 15:42.32 was senior Philip Dempsey.
Senior Bryan Mutell and junior Travis Pope came in fourth and fifth-place, respectively. Mutell finished five second ahead of Pope with a time of 15:49.30.
Rounding out the Tiger’s top 10 finishes were freshmen Jack Wilkes, Joseph St. Cyr and DC Lipiani.
Sophomore Chaiss Matthews was the next Lady Tiger to come in after Scheutz. Matthews crossed the line at 18:34.41 for third-place.
Senior Andria Aguilar came in fifth-place with a time of 18:41.35. Sophomore Ashley Welborn finished 10 seconds later to account for sixth-place
Finishing in seventh and 10th-place for the Lady Tigers were senior Andrea Maxwell and sophomore Danielle Avery. Maxwell clocked in at 18:59.68, with Avery coming in at 19:38.21.
LSU’s cross country teams will look to continue their dominance in next week’s McNeese Cowboy Stampede at the Enos Darbonne Recreation Complex in Lake Charles, LA. The women will take off at 8:45 a.m., and the men will begin at 9:15 a.m.
