LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri announced Friday that freshman left-handed pitcher Mac Marshall has decided to withdraw from the university and the baseball program.
The school announced the news via a press release Friday with a statement from Mainieri.
“Mac has decided to take a different career path, so we wish him well,” Mainieri said in the release. “We’re moving forward with the pitchers who are here. Alex Lange, Jake Latz, Jake Godfrey, Doug Norman, Collin Strall and Austin Bain have all looked outstanding in individual workouts.
“This development in no way diminishes our enthusiasm for this recruiting class that was rated No. 1 in the country. We’re going to have an excellent team, and this class will make a huge impact upon our success. We can’t wait to get started with fall practice on October 6.”
Mainieri said in the press release that he would have no further comment about Marshall’s decision, and is not aware of the left-hander’s future plans.
The loss of Marshall is a huge one for the Tigers, as the 6-foot-2-inch southpaw was expected to make an immediate impact in the Tigers’ rotation.
Marshall was drafted in the 21st round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros, which was later than expected due to Marshall’s intent to play college ball at LSU.
