The LSU volleyball suffered a four-set loss at the hands of Alabama on Sunday for the Tigers’ second consecutive loss in Southeastern Conference play.
The game culminated with a dramatic fourth set in which the Tigers (5-6, 0-2 SEC) and the Crimson Tide (14-2, 2-0 SEC) battled long and hard before Alabama came out on top, 35-33, to win the match.
The set looked promising for LSU when it took a 20-16, late-set lead. But Alabama fought back to tie it at 23-a-piece, sparking a back-and-forth affair in which the Tigers had four set points, but were never able to put it away.
The Tigers had a sluggish start to the game, allowing the Crimson Tide to dominate on their way to a 25-15 first-set victory.
LSU fought back and tied the match with a 25-22 second-set win, but Alabama regained the advantage with a 25-21 win in the third set before winning the hard-fought fourth set to prevent a decisive fifth set.
Sophomore opposite hitter Krystal Rivers played a vital role in Alabama’s win, tallying a game-high 26 kills, a .396 hitting clip and 12 digs.
Sophomore middle blocker Briana Holman once again led the way for the Tigers with 17 kills, 12 blocks and a .406 hitting percentage.
