The LSU men’s and women’s cross country teams posted solid performances for the second straight meet, this time at the Rice Invitational in Houston, Texas.
Competing against 92 participants from schools in the surrounding area, the Lady Tigers finished in third-place with a score of 97. The men finished in fifth-place with a score of 139 against 91 competitors.
Senior Andria Aguilar led the Lady Tigers with an eighth-place finish with a time of 13 minutes and 56 seconds in the 4k course. Aguilar finished 33 seconds behind sophomore Cali Roper of Rice for the lead.
Junior Morgan Schuetz finished in 15th-place, clocking in at 14:16. Sophomore Chaiss Matthews crossed the line shortly after with a time of 14:27 for a 20th-place finish.
The Lady Tigers accounting for the 25th and 29th-place finishes were sophomore Ashley Welborn and freshman Andrea Maxwell.
The other runners suiting up for the Lady Tigers were sophomores Danielle Avery, Jenna Walker, and Elizabeth Dunning and freshmen Rebecca Little, Carley Boyce, and Hannah Denworth.
Senior Philip Primeaux lead the Tigers in their fifth-place finish in the 6k course. Primeaux clocked in at 17:22 to account for seventh-place. Houston sophomore Brian Barraza finished 25 second ahead of Primeaux to win the event.
LSU junior Travis Pope finished in 20th-place, with senior Phillip Dempsey coming in at 27th-place. Pope clocked in at 17:47, with Dempsey finishing 13 seconds later.
Junior Brian Mutel and freshmen Jack Wilkes, Daniel Tanner, and D.C. Lipiani rounded out the competitors for the men’s team.
The next competition for the Tigers will be at the LSU Invitational at Highland Road Park on September 20th. Both groups will compete in the 5k course, with the women beginning at 8:05 a.m. CDT and the men at 9:15 a.m. CDT.
