Punk’s not dead! And definitely not on Tuesday nights from 11 – 1.
P U N K ! with Strangelove brings you the greatest influence in music : PUNK!
From the birth of rock n roll to today, punk has been there questioning the norm and pushing the line. In honor of those punks not eating BS like the rest of the world, I’ll always have something you can riot, pogo, mosh, skank, groove, dance, scream, and get the angst off your back from a long, hard day.
I’ve got a medley for all punks with a selection from protopunk, art punk, glam punk, postpunk, new wave, the no wave of East Village New York, hardcore, horror punk, noise rock, garage punk, folk punk, ska, dance punk, riot grrrl, post punk revival and much more.
What I look for in punk is two things. Energy! It’s gotta have drive and vigor. Secondly, it’s got to have expression similar to the Stooges’ revolt against boredom of the 60s, Joy Divisions’ expression of mood more than energy of 70s postpunk, or hardcore punk’s rebellion against conformity and authority of the 80s. Third, I must warn you, most music I play has the classic punk satire. Punks use humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity, vices, corruption, inequality, or power. That means you can’t cry like a baby when I play something slightly offensive. However, Big Brother is always watching and I respect the FCC. I will follow the Man’s radio rules because Strangelove is here to stay.
So I may be bending the rules of your definition of punk, but isn’t that punk to break a few rules? No it’s punk to have no rules. So shut up, get on your feet, crank up the volume, and stick a safety pin in it because Strangelove has it under control.
