LSU cornerback Dwayne Thomas is out for the season after tearing his ACL in the Tigers 63-7 victory against New Mexico State, a source confirmed to The Daily Reveille.
The Advocate originally reported Monday that Thomas would miss the remainder of the season with the injury.
Thomas had to be helped off the field after collapsing while cutting back in an attempt to sack the quarterback.
“I think there are a number of candidates there. I don’t know that I’m ready to be forth coming, but I think there is always an opportunity to get Jamal Adams on the field for more snaps,” Les Miles said at his weekly press conference. “I think Ed Paris is another guy that you can get on the field for more snaps. And how that will all factor in, I’m not certain.”
Thomas has been a key cog for the LSU defense after returning from a sports hernia he suffered his freshman season and has worked primarily as a nickelback in John Chavis’ defense.
The sophomore cornerback has 1.5 sacks this season to go along with 24 total tackles and an interception.
For his career, Thomas has four sacks and six pass breakups.
