Scotland native arrested twice
Officers arrested Garry William of Scotland twice Saturday after responding to complaints from the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house.
LSUPD spokesperson Capt. Cory Lalonde said William was lying on the front steps of the PKA house and refused to leave when fraternity members asked him.
Lalonde said William was intoxicated and cursing when police took him into custody.
William was issued a misdemeanor summons for disturbing the peace by intoxication and was later released, Lalonde said.
LSUPD arrested William for a disturbance 15 hours later.
Lalonde said William was in Touchdown Village, being loud and using profanities.
He also groped a female complainant.
William resisted officers when they arrived on scene and continued to shout, Lalonde said. Officers were able to handcuff William after he punched an officer and was taken to the ground.
William received a forehead injury during his resistance, and police called Baton Rouge Emergency Medical Services to the scene to attend to the wound. EMS transported William to a local hospital for further medical evaluation.
Lalonde said once William was released form the hospital, LSUPD transported him to East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, where he was booked.
William was charged with disturbing the peace by intoxication, resisting an officer, simple battery and battery of a police officer.
Student arrested for hit-and-run
Police arrested University student Richard Dempsey on Sept. 9 for a hit and run that had occurred four days prior.
Lalonde said Dempsey was driving his vehicle Sept. 4 near the West Stadium parking lot when he hit a female’s leg with his bumper and drove away.
Lalonde said the victim was able to retrieve Dempsey’s license number on scene and reported it to officers.
Officers contacted Dempsey, who denied hitting the victim, Lalonde said.
Police then issued Dempsey a misdemeanor summons for the traffic crash.
Lalonde said Dempsey was not booked.
Student admits to ear bud theft
Lalonde said Colton Dearman, 20, stole a pair of ear buds in Middleton Library on Sept. 3.
Police identified Dearman via video surveillance after receiving a call regarding the theft, Lalonde said.
The theft victim identified Dearman, Lalonde said, and saw him again in the library Thursday.
Lalonde said Dearman admitted to stealing the ear buds and returned the property to investigative officers, who gave the stolen item back to the victim.
Dearman was issued a misdemeanor summons after his arrest Thursday and was released, Lalonde said.
Bookstore theft suspect arrested
Officers responded Sept. 13 to a theft report at the University bookstore.
Lalonde said officers met with a bookstore employee who observed student Robert Swiger stealing a pair of headphones.
Lalonde said a bookstore employee stopped Swiger outside the door of the bookstore and officers found the stolen headphones.
Swiger was arrested, issued a misdemeanor summons and released, Lalonde said.
