LSU Football is an experience that should be enjoyable for the full LSU student body. Delta Kappa Epsilon’s game day banner last Saturday created a highly visible, unwelcoming environment for all members of our community and thousands of game-day, but especially for LSU’s LGBTQ students, faculty and staff.
LSU’s Commitment to Community underscores the belief that in our collective pride as LSU Tigers we will “respect the dignity of all persons and accept individual differences.” The banner displayed last Saturday missed the mark in upholding our commitment to treating each other with compassion and human respect. It is our hope that this experience becomes an opportunity for us to demonstrate that LSU is committed to creating and cultivating a safe living-learning environment for our students, all members of our University community, and visitors to our campus.
Delta Kappa Epsilon’s acknowledgement of the harm caused by their actions goes a long way toward healing and furthering understanding among all members of the community. As we look forward to the future, we hope that LSU will be a university where we come together not only on game day, but every day.
In solidarity…Geaux Tigers!
