After several grueling summer months of sweat, grind and preparation, the 2014 LSU football season is nearly upon us. While Tiger fans may have to wait a few more hours until the season kicks off against Wisconsin, the wait to hear who the starting quarterback will be is over.
On Friday afternoon, it was announced that sophomore Anthony Jennings will be the starting man behind center for LSU.
“I think I bring a lot of things to the table,” Jennings said. “That’s why I got myself here. With accuracy, with being smart in the classroom, with leading guys, I think I have all the attributes to be a great player here.”
“My expectations are no different than anybody else that comes around here,” freshman quarterback Brandon Harris said. “My expectation is to play here at LSU, play quarterback here at LSU and be the starter one day down the road. It’s just that simple. And help this team win a National Championship.”
Throughout summer and fall camp, LSU Coach Les Miles hadn’t tipped his hat as to whether Jennings or true freshman Brandon Harris would earn the starting job. It seems the Mad Hatter’s even had a little fun keeping it a secret.
“It’s either going to be one guy or the other,” Miles joked.
Despite naming a starter, Miles has said both quarterbacks will see the field in 2014.
“We’re going to play the best player that gives us the greatest chance at victory,” Miles said. “If two guys can give us greater advantage than one guy, than let’s certainly play two.”
A two quarterback system is a familiar experiment at LSU and the first trial of the 2014 test will come Saturday night against Wisconsin.
