The MTV Video Music Awards are always known for being one of the most entertaining award shows of the year, but this year’s show is expected to surpass even the highest expectations. Here are just a few things you have to look forward to during the MTV VMAs this Sunday:
1. Beyoncé
Need I say more? Probably not, but you know I’m going to. Queen B will be making an appearance on this year’s show, not just to perform, but also to accept the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, the VMAs equivalent of a lifetime achievement award. Beyoncé has undoubtedly had the biggest year of her career thanks to two sold-out tours (The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour, On The Run) and a surprise visual album (“Beyoncé”) that became double-platinum certified despite having no promotion before the release. The superstar has performed at the VMAs multiple times and never disappoints.
2. On-stage collaborations
Collaborations seem to be taking over pop radio right now and that will definitely be evident during the VMAs this year. Including the red carpet pre-show, there are twelve performers this year with Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, and Iggy Azalea leading the billing. Four of the twelve performances will include collaborations that have already been announced, but that doesn’t mean we won’t get any surprises! In addition to performing her hit “Anaconda,” Nicki Minaj is scheduled to perform with Usher (“She Came to Give it to You”) and Ariana Grande (“Bang Bang”), but fans are desperately hoping that she’ll also hit the stage with Beyoncé to perform the “Flawless” remix.
3. Fashion
The best part about the red carpet at the VMAs is that it’s literally a fashion free-for-all. You can be casual, glam, or just plain crazy and no one will give it a second thought. All eyes will be on the red carpet to see if any pop stars decide to take a page from Lady Gaga’s book- turning food into fashion since 2010.
4. Shocking moments
From glittery pasties to live snakes on stage, this show has seen a lot in its 30 year history. Thanks to its spot on a late-night cable network, there’s really not much that’s off limits. Will Kanye West run on stage and stop Taylor Swift’s performance? Will Beyonce announce another pregnancy? Will Chris Brown and Rihanna reunite again? We’ll have to wait until Sunday to find out!
What are you looking forward to the most?
