LSU’s offensive line coach opening is expected to be filled this week, as Virginia Tech offensive line coach Jeff Grimes appears to have secured the position.
Reports originally surfaced Wednesday afternoon when Chris Patridge, the high school coach of a Hokie commit, told The Advocate that Grimes would be leaving for LSU.
Virginia Tech assistant coach Shane Beamer later took to Twitter to congratulate Grimes.
Grimes, 45, spent one season with the Hokies under head coach Frank Beamer. He has experience in the Southeastern Conference, serving as offensive line coach at Auburn from 2009-12 under former coach Gene Chizik. He has also been an offensive line coach at Colorado, Brigham Young, Arizona State, Boise State and Hardin-Simmons.
Former LSU offensive line coach Greg Studrawa left the team on Jan. 8 to “pursue other opportunities,” according to LSU associate athletic director Michael Bonnette.
Bonnette said the team is “hoping” to announce a new offensive line coach Friday, but the program won’t comment on any potential hires until then.
