Senior LSU men’s diver Sean McKinney has been named Southeastern Conference Male Diver of the Week after strong performances against SMU and Oklahoma Baptist.
McKinney broke the school record on the 3-meter with a score of 425.70 against Oklahoma Baptist, marking the second time this season that McKinney has broken the record.
In the meet against SMU, McKinney finished second on the 1-meter with a score of 349.35 and third on the 3-meter, scoring a 360.23.
“It’s been a rough couple of weeks, so it’s nice to come back and receive this honor,” McKinney said. “Our coaching staff has helped us push through the grueling schedule, and it was nice to come back home and have a strong showing.”
McKinney returns to action against Texas A&M on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the LSU Natatorium.
McKinney is no stranger to success as he was named to the 2013 SEC Academic Honor Roll along with being a 2013 NCAA Qualifier. McKinney originally set the school record for the 3-meter in 2012 at the Auburn Diving Invitational with a score of 415.50.
