LSU senior gymnast Sarie Morrison was awarded Southeastern Conference Specialist of the Week on Tuesday for her performance on bars and vault against Centenary in the Lady Tigers season opening win Friday night.
The Dallas, Texas, native secured the award after posting identical 9.925 scores on vault and uneven bars, helping the Tigers to their highest opening night score in the history of the program. The 197.200 team score was good for second in the nation this season.
Morrison has specialized in the two events throughout her LSU career, and she has rebounded from a traumatic ankle injury that limited her abilities throughout last season.
The vault title was the eighth of Morrison’s career, while the senior extended her own school record on bars, earning her 21st event title.
The Specialist award is the third of Morrison’s career. The other two recognitions came last season following strong performances against North Carolina and Arkansas.
The No. 2 Lady Tigers return to action Friday as they meet SEC opponent No. 9 Georgia in their second meet of the season.
