The NCAA approved a waiver granting former LSU guard Anthony Hickey eligibility to play for Oklahoma State for the 2014-2015 season, the university announced Monday.
Hickey retained immediate eligibility because he was in good academic standing with the University and proved that dismissal from the team was not his choosing, and LSU submitted a waiver allowing him to transfer. The Hopkinsville, Ky., native enrolled in summer school at Oklahoma State last Friday, according a report from the Tulsa World.
The junior guard started in 85 games during his three-year tenure in Baton Rouge, averaging 9.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Hickey averaged 34.4 percent from behind the arc and led the Southeastern Conference with a 2.8 assist-to-turnover ratio in 2013-2014.
Hickey was one of three players removed from the Tigers’ roster last month. Guard Malik Morgan, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in February, transferred to Tulane, and forward Shane Hammink has yet to enroll at another university.
The former Kentucky Mr. Basketball will be replaced by Tim Quarterman, who averaged 2.5 points and 1.8 rebounds per game in his freshman campaign, and Keith Hornsby, who was ineligible to play in 2013-2014 after transferring from North Carolina-Asheville.
LSU added guards Jalyn Patterson and junior college transfer Josh Gray in this year’s recruiting class. Gray averaged 33.8 points, 5.9 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game for Odessa College (Texas) this season.
