The LSU quarterback competition has finally come to an end, with Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels earning the nod per Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports. This race ran deep into fall camp, as the coaching staff put as much scrutiny into this decision as possible.
This isn’t the first time Daniels has won a quarterback battle, with the junior earning his first starting bid as a freshman with Arizona State. He started 30 games there, compiling over 6,000 yards through the air, 1,200 yards on the ground and 45 total touchdowns throughout his time there.
He will look to build on what’s already been an impressive career, in the toughest conference college football has to offer.
Daniels won the job over three other candidates: former starter Myles Brennan, Garrett Nussmeier and freshman Walker Howard. Nussmeier will serve as the team’s backup and Howard will likely be assigned a redshirt for his first season with the program.
Daniels will take the field for the first time for LSU today as the Tigers take on Florida State in New Orleans at 6:30 p.m.
