Two LSU graduate students were hospitalized Monday after being injured in a shooting in Georgia.
A GoFundMe for the pair’s growing medical bills had raised over $18,000 toward its $50,000 goal on Friday afternoon.
The two graduate students from LSU’s Department of Entomology were in downtown Augusta, Georgia, Monday night, according to the GoFundMe, where they’d been traveling to attend an entomology conference.
An unidentified gunmen fired at the pair, according to the GoFundMe; the first graduate student, Muhammad Danyal Khan sustained a gunshot wound to his arm and the other, Carlos Rivera, sustained a gunshot wound to his thigh.
“While we are blessed that no one was killed in the incident,” the GoFundMe read, “these injuries will cause tremendous financial and emotional strain on both students.”
Because of the limited insurance plans available to the graduate students, the GoFundMe explained, only a small portion of their medical bills would be covered. The GoFundMe, formed Thursday, sought to span the remaining costs.
