LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers was selected by the New York Giants in the first round with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
He was the second player from LSU to be selected in this year’s draft, as Jayden Daniels was selected by the Washington Commanders with the No. 2 overall pick.
The consensus All-American and Biletnikoff Award finalist finished as LSU’s leading wide receiver two seasons in a row, finishing with over 1,000 receiving yards in each of the two seasons.
For the 2023-24 season, Nabers turned it up a notch from his 1,017 yard and three touchdown season. In his last season at LSU, Nabers finished with 89 receptions for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns.
He finished second in the country in receiving yards, only behind Washington’s Rome Odunze, and was tied for third in the country for receiving touchdowns.
Ahead of the NFL Draft, Nabers had an impressive LSU Pro Day after not competing at the NFL Combine. His day was highlighted by a 42-inch vertical jump and a 4.35 40-yard dash.
“When you watch film, you see him separate himself from great players in the SEC. Today, you saw a 42-inch vertical,” head coach Brian Kelly said after the Pro Day. “I don’t think there’s a better receiver in the country.”
Along with his performance statistics, Nabers also presented lots of upside with his measurements. Despite being 6-foot, his hands measured in a 9 and seven-eighths inches. His hand measurements are the same at Brian Thomas Jr.’s, even though Thomas is three inches taller.
With his skill set and abilities, Nabers made himself into a clear, top 10 draft pick, and the Giants were quick to take advantage.
