Student Government and the College Council partnered together to host an event called “College Council Rodeo” at Tower Drive on Tuesday. The event consisted of snowballs, brisket sandwiches, DIY cowboy hats and a mechanical bull.
The event was coordinated by Student Body Vice President Gigi Powers, College Council Coordinator for Student Government Ella Millet and other College Council members.
Political science sophmore Breanna Sebring is the president of the College Council for the Honors College. She said her favorite part of the event was getting to see everyone’s ideas come to life.
“Each college council came up with an idea to host at the event,” Sebring said. “Pretty much every college council is here with a table or conjoined with another college. (The Honors College) planned for a caricature artist and airbrush tattoos. I think it’s all very creative. I really like Art & Design’s photo drop. I think it’s so cute.”
Lauren Curtis, biology senior and College of Science treasurer discussed her involvement in the council and her motivations for joining.
“I wanted to get more involved in the college science because I like planning events,” Curtis said. “I thought it would be fun to do. Also, I like dealing with money, so I chose treasurer.”
Brooklyn Hays, biology senior, is the College Council president for the College of Science.
“I also felt like I hadn’t really done much to get involved and I felt like it was a good service opportunity,” Hays said. “We actually are planning on donating 150 hygiene kits that consists of male and female hygiene products to a local homeless shelter. I’ve just felt like it was a good service thing to add to our resume and to actually do something for the students of the college of science.”
Curtis said her favorite part of being on College Council is the events they put on.
“They’re really fun,” Curtis said. “We all get to become closer since we don’t really get a chance to talk outside of this. This is really fun. It’s a good time too.”
International Management freshman, Charlease Cusumano said she came out to the event when she saw the baby goats. She thinks it’s important that Student government continues to have fun events like this in the future.
“It brings a lot of people near the Union, and it brings more awareness,” Cusumano said. “Like the Ag Center, I didn’t even know they had goats. I didn’t even know they had animals actually in general. I thought they just did something with like, grain or the fields. Events like this just brings a bunch of people together.”
