LSU football running back Trey Holly had his second-degree attempted murder charge rejected by a grand jury on Friday, according to The Advocate.
The jury did charge him with illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentality.
Holly, 19, was arrested in February in connection with a shooting in Union Parish that left two people injured. He was booked on one count of attempted second-degree murder, one count of aggravated criminal damage to property and one count of illegal use of a weapon.
Holly’s attorney Mike Small said Holly will plead not guilty to the remaining charge.
Shortly after his arrest in February, Holly maintained his innocence in a social media post.
“As you guys know I was recently arrested on 3 felony charges. I have been falsely identified, accused, and arrested. I am 100% innocent and the people that know me know this is not my character at all,” Holly said in the post.
Later in the post, Holly claimed he was at home when the incident took place, but turned himself in because he was “notified of an arrest warrant and I wanted to fully cooperate.”
Holly is currently suspended indefinitely from the LSU football team.
