LSU men’s basketball added its second transfer of the offseason on Thursday, as University of Tennessee-Martin guard Jordan Sears will now join the Tigers, according to his Instagram.
Sears will use his final year of eligibility with LSU, having averaged career highs in nearly every category this year with UT Martin. He finished the season putting up 21.6 points, 4.5 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.
He made 43.2% of his shots and made the same percentage on his 3-point attempts. He was a high-volume 3-point shooter, attempting 5.5 per game.
Sears was named to the all-Ohio Valley Conference first team each of the past two years. This year, he was also one of 35 finalists for the Lou Henson award, which recognizes the best mid-major player in the nation each year.
This year, he led the OVC in scoring (No. 9 in the nation) and finished No. 2 in assists and No. 9 in steals while his team led the league in offense and earned a share of the regular season conference championship.
Sears officially visited LSU on Wednesday. He chose the Tigers from a list of six finalists, including Alabama and South Carolina.
He’s yet another scoring guard who’ll fill a need for LSU. He’ll join a back court that will feature fellow transfer Cam Carter, Mike Williams III and Curtis Givens III.
With Jordan Wright and Trae Hannibal graduating, Jalen Cook declaring for the NBA Draft and Carlos Stewart entering the transfer portal, LSU was in need in the guard room.
Sears scored 30 or more points on six occasions last season, including his career high of 37 against Lindenwood.
UT Martin ultimately fell in the OVC conference tournament to Morehead State, who would win the tournament and advance to the NCAA Tournament, despite Sears’ 34 points in the game.
Before attending UT Martin, Sears spent two seasons at Gardner-Webb.
