Psychedelic Funk is also known as P-Funk, Funkadelic, and psychedelic soul. This genre originates in the U.S. 60s/70s. Parliament and Funkadelic (also referred to as Parliament Funkadelic Collective) really pioneered this genre– led by George Clinton.
Jimi Hendrix, Sly & The Family Stone, Brides of Funkenstein, and Parlet also leaned into and embraced the psychedelic sound. Common themes in this genre is often related to space, science fiction, and Afrofuturism.
The sounds of psychedelic funk would soon be associated with blackness and incorporated in blaxploitation films. Psychedelic funk/soul would also be important in the developments in disco. Later, it would inspire G-Funk (Gangsta Funk) in the 90s.
