Former LSU pitcher Luke Holman will carry on his baseball career with the Cincinnati Reds, who drafted him Sunday with the 71st pick in the MLB Draft.
Holman spent his junior season with the Tigers and emerged as the pitching staff’s strongest option.
He’ll now head to the professional level with and join a farm system that was ranked No. 10 by MLB.com in March.
He opened the season with 25 straight innings without allowing a run. During that span, he came up with 41 strikeouts.
While Holman didn’t quite sustain those unheard-of numbers, he did finish the season as a second team All-American with a statline of 2.75 ERA, 12.6 strikeouts per nine innings and a .174 opposing batting average, which was No. 9 in the nation.
Before his time at LSU, Holman was a pitcher at Alabama and was their top starter in 2023.
With Holman being drafted, LSU now has two players from last season’s roster who have been selected in the draft, as Tommy White was drafted earlier.
