LSU has had its first draftee of the 2024 MLB Draft, as former Tiger third baseman Tommy White has been selected by the Oakland Athletics with the 40th pick of the draft.
White spent two years at LSU and was a key piece on the 2023 championship team.
He’ll now bring his powerful bat to the Oakland organization, where he’ll likely begin in the minor leagues.
This past year, White was the leader of LSU’s offense as he had a batting average of .330 with 70 RBI and 24 home runs.
He also had a great improvement defensively in his junior year.
White’s sophomore season was just as impactful as he hit .374 and had 105 RBI, which was the top number in the nation that year.
He was a second team All-American in both of his two years at LSU.
Before that, White spent his freshman year at North Carolina State as a star recruit who had an immediate impact. His 27 home runs that year were the most in NCAA history for a freshman.
