A new year brings a new focus word for LSU: engagement.
LSU President William F. Tate IV announced Friday that the university would offer monetary awards incentivizing “engagement” for students, faculty and staff. He also said in his email to campus that the Division of Inclusion, Civil Rights & Title IX has been renamed the Division of Engagement, Civil Rights & Title IX.
The monetary awards will total $7,000 a year distributed to seven members of campus.
Each year, the university will award two students “who excel in this area” of engagement $500 through the Tiger Engagement Award, the president said.
There will be another annual award for the “most distinguished engaged faculty member,” who will be given a $3,000 stipend. The president also said faculty would receive an email survey soon about creating an “annual symposium on engagement, service, and the land-grant university.”
Staff, too, have a chance to be recognized. Two staff members “whose efforts have resulted in increased engagement on campus and beyond our gates” will be awarded a $1,000 stipend, Tate said. Two additional staff members will receive $500 each.
The president said application information would be “forthcoming” and that winners will be selected through a committee.
