Long-time LSU defensive back coach, Corey Raymond, is finalizing a deal to him come back to Baton Rouge and coach at LSU. On3 first reported the news.
Raymond spent the past two seasons at Florida, where he was the assistant head coach and secondary coach, after being at LSU from 2012-21. After a 5-7 record at Florida, the Gators parted ways with Raymond.
Similarly, LSU head coach Brian Kelly parted ways with cornerbacks coach, Robert Steeples, and safeties coach, Kerry Cooks, after two years with the program.
Raymond is a big piece of LSU’s nickname of, “DBU,” or “Defensive Back University”. He coached and helped develop cornerbacks Derek Stingley Jr. and Tre’Davious White, along with safeties Jamal Adams and Grant Delpit.
Raymond has made his way around the country, but always seems to find himself back in Baton Rouge. He started at LSU in 2006 and became an assistant strength and conditioning coach from 2007-08. He then went to Utah State and was its cornerbacks coach from 2009-10. He spent the 2011 season in Nebraska as its cornerbacks coach.
Raymond played at LSU from 1988-91, and went on to have a six season career in the NFL with the New York Giants and Detroit Lions.
With the rich history of development Raymond has along with his familiarity with the program, this seems to be another strong hire from Kelly.
