LSU may be out of session, but for the Tigers’ track and field athletes, there’s still two days left before they get their break.
The NCAA Division I outdoor track and field national championships for both men and women started on Wednesday, but the finals for many of the events will be on Friday and Saturday.
All of it is taking place at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
In the most recent national coaches’ poll, LSU was ranked No. 9 in the country on the men’s side and No. 2 on the women’s side, where the Tigers have been the top team for much of the season.
Fourteen student-athletes from each of the men and women’s teams qualified for the national championships.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the men and women’s teams competed in semifinals for all the track events, as well as a few finals in field events.
From the men’s team, three athletes in individual events qualified for their respective finals, as well as two relay teams.
On the women’s side, LSU qualified seven entries in individual event finals and two relay teams.
In addition, freshman Trinity Spooner placed No. 7 in the javelin finals on Thursday, earning LSU its first points in the standings for either team.
LSU’s successful preliminaries set the stage for an exciting final two days of the national championships where LSU will be heavily involved.
