The British are BACK!! The 2nd wave is fun, synth-pop and full of new wave. It started in summer of 1982, peaked in 1983 and continued to rock through the 80s and some of the 90s. MTV and the Disco Demolition (1979) gave way to the second wave.
MTV had no choice but to play mostly British bands when it started as pretty much all music videos were made by British bands. Video Killed the Radio Star by the Buggles was the first video to play on MTV. Bands like Duran Duran had their own type of Beatlemania.
Established British artist such as David Bowie and Queen saw an increase in success and popularity. While 1st wave artist peaked one last time in the 80s. Finally 90s British bands– The Spice Girls, Blur and Oasis– had a few hits, but mostly missed out on the height of the invasion.
