The 2024 Grammy nominations were released on Nov. 10, and everyone has something to say about it.
The ceremony will take place on Feb 4. at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
With artists like Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo up for Record of the Year, Album of the Year and many other categories, the stakes are high.
One group that has a significant presence in the nominations is boygenius for its album “the record” and hit “Not Strong Enough.” Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker have brought themselves a lot of attention through their unique vibe and soul-crushing songs.
Women dominate the nominations this year. SZA has received nine nominations, the most out of any artist this year. Phoebe Bridgers and boygenius are a close second, with her holding seven, and the group holding six.
Taylor Swift is on the verge of making history as this upcoming Grammys could make her the artist with the most wins in the Album of the Year Award category ever.
Drake & 21 Savage’s “Spin Bout U” and “Rich Flex” from their album “Her Loss” have earned their spots in Best Melodic Rap Performance and Best Rap Song respectively. Metro Boomin’s “Heroes &Villains” and Travis Scott’s “Utopia” are up for Best Rap Album.
Best New Artist will be unpredictable with names such as Ice Spice, Noah Kahan and Gracie Abrams nominated.
“This is OUR Grammy nomination,” Kahan tweeted in response to the news.
Sophomore Morgan Vannosdoll said she was excited to hear that Taylor Swift was nominated for six awards this year. Her fingers are crossed that Swift will win them, she said.
“So many great artists are nominated for Best New Artist,” Vannosdoll said. “I really hope that either Gracie Abrams or Noah Kahan will win.”
Sophomore Sara Linder has been a die-hard boygenius fan from the start. As much as she wants its “Not Strong Enough” or SZA’s “Kill Bill” to win Song of the Year, she said that she thinks it will go to Taylor Swift for “Anti-Hero.”
“I want a boygenius sweep,” Linder said.
Sophomore Madelyn Stermer said she usually doesn’t follow the Grammys. That was until this year when Lana Del Ray’s “A&W” was nominated for Song of the Year.
“‘Her Loss’ was like one of the best albums of last year, and people still play it,” Sophomore Lofton Johnson said. “I think Drake is going to win.”
Few Blue’s lead singer Camryn Wisniewski said she thinks Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers” deserves Record of the Year.
Out of all the amazing nominees, my hopes are set on boygenius’s “Not Strong Enough” winning Record of the Year, Drake & 21 Savage’s “Spin Bout U” winning Best Melodic Rap Performance and Noah Kahan winning Best New Artist.
