60s Garage Rock is genre of many names– proto-punk, frat rock, 60s punk. It became popular as The British Invasion inspired the youth to form their own bands. Simple chords, growling, distorted vocals, psychedelic sounds and lyrics about discontentment and anger are the defining characteristics of Garage Rock.
This movement also featured many all-women bands such as The Children of Eve. In addition, a portion of the playlist highlights the Group Sounds (beat/garage rock) movement in Japan, which came shortly after The Beatles visited in 1966.
The last portion focuses on the more experimental, psychedelic, and moodier songs of the era. While Garage Rock was short lived in the 60s it inspired 70s punk, psychedelic music, and acid rock.
