After a rigorous week of both wins and losses in the SEC West, another weekend of collegiate football is right around the corner.
Saturday’s matchups are filled with timeless rivalries and what should be some of this season’s best games.
Here are this week’s games to watch:
LSU vs. Army
After a major win against Auburn, LSU is facing Army in Death Valley for its homecoming game.
LSU remains the No. 2 seed in the SEC West and No. 19 overall.
The Tigers’ offense continues to be explosive, scoring 48 points against Auburn. Jayden Daniels completed 20 passes for 325 yards and three touchdowns.
He shows no signs of stopping.
Saturday’s game against Army isn’t expected to be close by any means, as LSU is favored to win by 31 points, according to Fox Sports, even though the Black Knights have the No. 14 passing defense.
Despite being ranked No. 2 in Independents, Army is 2-4 and on a three-game losing streak.
LSU will face Army’s new offense after they were forced to change from their flexbone triple-option offense. The NCAA made blocking below the waist illegal, so the Black Knights shifted to a more pass-oriented style.
Although running backs such as Hayden Reed and receivers such as Noah Short will test LSU’s defense, the Tiger’s offense should easily outscore Army’s, and the winner should be clear by halftime.
Alabama vs. Tennessee
Alabama’s game against Tennessee will likely be the best matchup of the week within the SEC West.
The game will be in Tuscaloosa, giving Alabama home-field advantage.
Alabama is ranked No. 1 in the SEC West and No. 11 overall. The Tide is on a roll with four conference wins and a five-game win streak.
Although their wins are adding up, the Tide hasn’t been as dominant towards other teams as many expected. They have struggled to create separation, even in games where they were expected to win by a lot.
In its previous game against Arkansas, Alabama only won by a field goal, shocking most viewers since Arkansas isn’t ranked and is seeded last in the SEC West.
Contrary to Alabama, most of Tennessee’s wins have been by over two touchdowns.
The Vols are ranked No. 17 overall and No. 4 in the SEC East despite only having one loss on their record.
Tennessee seized a close 20-13 win in its previous game against Texas A&M, increasing its win streak to three. Players such as Jaylen Wright continued to be a standout player, rushing 136 yards on 19 carries.
Although Alabama is projected to win by five points, Tennessee will definitely put up a fight until the clock runs out.
Auburn vs. Ole Miss
Ole Miss will travel to Auburn to face the Tigers on Saturday.
With Auburn coming off of a tough loss and Ole Miss a win, the Rebels are expected to take the game by a touchdown.
Although Ole Miss has only lost one game this season, the Rebels past few wins have only been by a touchdown.
Now, facing Auburn on the road, many speculate whether they will be able to take advantage of the Tiger’s weaker offense and produce the score that they are capable of.
Auburn has struggled to produce wins this season, being one of three teams in the SEC West without any conference wins.
Although the Tigers have home field advantage, few expect them to upset the Rebels, meaning their conference record will worsen to 0-4.
Mississippi State vs. Arkansas
Mississippi State will travel to Arkansas for its seventh game of the season. The last game that the Bulldogs played was against Western Michigan on Oct. 7 since their bye weekend was Oct. 14.
The Bulldogs are coming off of their third win of the season, contrary to Arkansas who is on a five week losing streak.
Mississippi State and Arkansas are ranked last in the SEC West. Neither have won a game against an SEC opponent, meaning that one will come out of this weekend with their first conference win.
The Razorbacks are coming off of a loss to Alabama, where they put up a fight until the end, only losing by a field goal.
But this isn’t the first time this happened.
Arkansas did the same thing to LSU, losing in the final seconds of the game. Also, they only lost by a touchdown to Ole Miss and BYU, meaning that the Razorbacks are not an opponent that should be overlooked.
The Razorbacks are expected to win by a touchdown, benefiting from home-field advantage.
Texas A&M has a bye week after losing to Tennessee. The Aggies will return Saturday, Oct. 28 to play South Carolina at home.
This week’s matchups will be crucial for all teams.
With only six weeks remaining in the regular season, every win or loss will count towards who takes home the conference title.
