LSU football’s Jayden Daniels was named the Walter Camp Player of the Year on Friday night.
The Walter Camp Award is given annually to the best collegiate football player, no matter their position. The award is decided upon by 131 FBS head coaches and sports information directors.
Daniels is the second player in LSU program history to win the award, joining Joe Burrow, who won the award in 2019.
The transfer from Arizona State has developed into one of the greatest quarterbacks to move through LSU’s program. He’s cemented himself into the program’s record books, right next to all of the greats.
Daniels finished his 2023 season with 3,812 passing yards and 40 touchdowns. The quarterback completed the season with 1,134 yards on the ground, as well as 10 more rushing touchdowns of his own.
The California native was recognized as the SEC Offensive Player of the Week five different times in his 2023 season, and just recently was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Year.
Daniels is the only player in FBS history to record at least 12,000 career passing yards and 3,000 career rushing yards.
At the conclusion of the season, Daniels led the nation in total offense, passing touchdowns, touchdowns responsible for, passer rating, yards per pass attempt, rushing yards by a quarterback and yards per play.
