If you’ve never taken the time to sit down and watch “Dallas Buyer’s Club,” I suggest you do it immediately.
That’s right, put down the exam review and flash cards, this film will teach you more than you need to know about how precious life is. Isn’t that the most important lesson we need to learn?
“Dallas Buyer’s Club” is based on a true story starring Matthew McConaughey as Ron Woodroof. Set in 1985, Woodroof makes it his mission to help those with AIDS to receive needed medication. The twist is Woodroof himself has also recently been diagnosed with AIDS.
During this journey, Woodroof befriends transvestite, Rayon, played by Jared Leto. During a time where the topics of having AIDS and becoming transgender were discriminated against, Rayon is fighting not only for her life, but also to be secure with her identity.
Leto received an Oscar for this role because of how well he portrays Rayon’s struggle up until her last breath. But Leto’s praise doesn’t stop at his performance, it bleeds into how dedicated he was to the role. The actor lost a tremendous amount of weight for the role of Rayon along with fully committing to the wardrobe and makeup.
Rayon’s style can only be described as eccentric.
She likes to stand out and be remembered. She’s also incredibly terrified of death and can be found numerous times diving into distractions — including dressing up and going out.
Rayon’s wardrobe needs three things: florals, fur and form-fitting clothing.
Most of Rayon’s ensembles combine all three of these items, but you can wear them separately if you’d rather tone down the outfits.
Floral is Rayon’s wardrobe was either in dress form, or could be found as an accessory like a scarf. Either way, she picked big patterns in a combination of bright and neutral colors.
As for the fur, Rayon normally picked a fur coat in a tan color. These jackets were used as an outer layer to her usually revealing ensembles underneath.
The outfits underneath usually involved a tight dress or a skirt and top with tights. The top was usually a crop top. While these wardrobe choices aren’t appropriate for all situations, the carefreeness of Rayon’s choices can be fun for a night out.
Choose a weekend night to pull out your favorite crop top with a high-waisted skirt, or a body-con dress. Add a floral accent with either a pattern on the top or dress or add a scarf. Finish it off with a fur coat if it’s a little cold and out you go.
Just remember Rayon’s confidence and the ensemble is complete.
