The No. 10 LSU men’s golf team will compete in the Valspar Invitational at Floridian beginning at 8 a.m. Monday in Palm City, Florida.
After a first-place finish in its last event in Florida, LSU hopes to use momentum to gain its fourth team victory this season. The Tigers are coming off of a 14-under par, 838, claiming sole possession of the tournament title in the Talis Park Challenge on March 16.
This will be the Tigers second-straight season competing in the event. Last season, the Tigers completed the 54-hole, two-day tournament at 847, 5-under par, for a fourth-place finish. This marked one of the nine team top-five finishes during the 2013-14 season.
Current senior All-American Stewart Jolly led the team at last year’s event. Jolly completed his week as runner-up with a score of 10-under par, 203.
No. 6 Georgia Tech took the tournament’s crown last season at 15-under par, 837. It was followed by Oklahoma State and Texas A&M at 7-under par and 6-under par, respectively.
The University of Houston will host the tournament once again, compelling elite collegiate teams to compete in its yearly event.
The field consists of five of the nation’s top ten teams, according to Golfweek, including Oklahoma State and South Florida, which are ranked in the top 20.
LSU will be paired with Oklahoma State and South Florida after Monday morning’s shotgun start. All teams will play 36 holes on the opening day and 18 on the final day.
