LSU track and field senior thrower Rodney Brown was named the Southeastern Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after opening the outdoor season with an NCAA-leading discus throw at the Louisiana Classics held in Lafayette on Saturday.
After finishing in 10th at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Brown hurled an NCAA-best throw of 207 feet, 11 inches in the first meet of the season. He finished in first place at the Louisiana Classics, overthrowing the second-place finisher by more than 50 feet.
Brown is in position to eclipse his personal-best and LSU-record distance of 212-2 in his last season with the Tigers in 2015.
