University custodial worker arrested for theft of traffic controls
LSUPD arrested Roderick Spurlock, 19, on one count of theft of a stop sign and two traffic cones on March 17, according to LSUPD spokesperson Capt. Cory LaLonde.
On March 1, LSUPD officers observed a University pickup truck with what appeared to be stolen traffic controls.
Spurlock was issued a misdemeanor summons March 17 after being identified as the owner of the truck and admitting to the theft after questioning.
LSUPD arrests campus beggar
Tyrell George, 23, of Baton Rouge, was arrested March 17 for appearing on campus without permission.
On March 17 at 1:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to the School of Music and Dramatic Arts building in reference to a suspicious person begging students for money. Upon arrival, police identified the subject as George.
After running a check, officers learned George had two active warrants and had been previously told not to return to campus in May 2014. He was previously arrested after returning in July and August 2014.
George was taken into custody and booked into EBR Parish Prison on two active warrants and charge of returning after being forbidden, Lalonde said.
George is not affiliated with the University.
Duo arrested for simple drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia
Luke Nelson, 18, of Bastrop, Texas, and Alexander Olivier, 18, of Arnaudville, Louisiana, were charged with simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia March 18, Lalonde said.
Just after midnight, an officer conducting foot patrol at the gravel lot near Residential College One observed two subjects smoking in a vehicle.
Upon further investigation, both were found with marijuana, pipes, grinders and rolling papers.
Both students were issued a misdemeanor summons and released from LSUPD.
University Recreation Thief Identified
Darryl Marchand, Jr., 24, of LaPlace, was arrested for theft March 18, according to LSUPD spokesperson Capt. Cory Lalonde.
On February 16, LSUPD received complaints of the theft of an Apple iPhone, phone case and a small amount of cash from the UREC.
A University student reported the property stolen while playing basketball at
the UREC.
Officers reviewed surveillance footage and identified the person who took the property as Marchand and obtained an arrest warrant for him.
Marchand turned himself in and was booked into EBR Parish prison on the warrant, Lalonde said.
Student arrested for drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia
Xavier Knighten, 19, of Baton Rouge, was arrested for simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia on March 21.
At 1:47 a.m., an LSUPD officer patrolling the Miller Extension Lot observed several suspicious subjects sitting in a vehicle.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the suspect Knighten exited the vehicle, and the officer observed smoke and a strong marijuana odor.
After questioning the subjects in the vehicle, Knighten admitted he had been smoking.
Knighten was issued a misdemeanor summons and released from LSUPD.
