This Greek classic is one of my all time favorite dishes. The gyro is fresh tasting yet tangy and hearty, so I decided to take a stab at my own recipe. This Southern Gyro recipe definitely has a few twists but it is still remnant of a tradition recipe. For instance, the beef in the recipe is a smoked beef roast with an almost carne asada marinade. I hope you enjoy my gyro rendition.
Recipe:
Ingredients: smoked beef roast sliced thin; thinly sliced cucumber; red and yellow pepper slivers; fresh garlic hummus; fresh green spinach; oven roasted pita
Preparation: Set the oven to a low broil and warm the pita on a pan. Afterwards, simply put a thin layer of hummus on each side of the pita. Layer beef, peppers, cucumbers and spinach into the pita. Cut in half and enjoy.
