Students at a Pennsylvania high school wore flannel shirts, wrote “anti-gay” on their hands, and put Bible verses on LGBT students’ lockers for “Anti-Gay Day” on Thursday.
According to Buzzfeed, the protest at McGuffey High School in Claysville occurred the day after the school’s Gay-Straight Alliance organized a “Day of Silence.” The event was held to promote awareness of anti-gay bullying. Members of GSA and other students wore black, painted rainbows on their faces, and stayed silent for the day.
Zoe Johnson, a 16-year-old bisexual student, and other students went to a school board meeting to talk about anti-gay bullying issue with administrators on Thursday night.
Superintendent Erica Kolat released the statement to Buzzfeed News on Monday. Kolat stated that the school administration and police officers conducted an ongoing investigation of harassment during “Anti-Gay Day.” No statements of physical harassment has been released.
