FORT WORTH, Texas — The No. 4 LSU gymnastics team experienced a fifth-place finish in NCAA Semifinal II on Friday night, posting a team-score of 196.550.
The fifth-place finish does not qualify LSU for the Super Six. Alabama, Auburn and Oklahoma made the cut and will face Florida, Utah and Stanford for the national championship on Saturday.
LSU began the meet on vault at 49.375. Next, it waied a bye period of roughly 30 minutes before competing on bars and beam, scoring 49.425 and 48.275, respectively.
The Tigers had to count scores of 9.300 and 9.375 on beam after four falls and stumbles on the apparatus. The event score was the lowest event score by the Tigers this season.
After another prolonged bye rotation, LSU regathered itself,and gave its floor routine all of the energy it had. The Tigers had a rowdy following of fans cheering them on after the beam disappointment.
