LSU freshman pitcher Allie Walljasper earned Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors for her performance in the 2015 Tiger Invitational, the league announced Monday.
Walljasper pitched two complete games against Hofstra on Friday and No. 20 Notre Dame on Sunday. She earned her first career save against the Irish on Saturday. Walljasper pitched 16 innings, allowing only one earned run while striking out 10 and giving up no walks.
Against Hofstra, Walljasper notched her second-straight complete shutout and tallied five strikeouts.
In the Tigers’ first matchup against Notre Dame on Saturday, Walljasper entered in the sixth inning and protected a one-run lead by pitching out of two bases-loaded situations.
Against Notre Dame on Sunday, she gave up her only earned run of the season in the first inning but rallied by allowing only two hits and holding the Irish scoreless in the last six innings.
In her 23 innings pitched this season, Walljasper has allowed opposing batters to hit only .171 and has posted a 0.30 ERA.
The Tigers will take on Louisiana Tech at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Tiger Park.
