The LSU softball softball team jumped to No. 7 in the USA Today/NFCA poll after sweeping the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic last weekend, the NFCA announced Tuesday morning.
The Tigers are off to their best start in program history (16-0) with a combination of dynamic offense and dominant pitching.
Sophomore infielder Sahvanna Jaquish and junior infielder Bianka Bell led the Tigers with six home runs apiece and are tied for the most in the Southeastern Conference. Through its first 16 games, LSU has outscored its opponents 108-19 and is hitting .352 as a team.
LSU’s pitching staff has posted a collective ERA of 1.03 and an opposing batting average of .194. Freshman pitcher Allie Walljasper (6-0) has led the rotation, posting a 0.59 ERA through 35.1 innings pitched.
LSU will host Stephen F. Austin, Ball State, Florida Atlantic and Northwestern State in the Purple Purple & Gold Challenge starting at 5 p.m. on Friday at Tiger Park.
