The No. 19 LSU softball team looked in danger of losing to Memphis for much of its season opener at Tiger Park Friday evening. Then LSU’s offense came alive at just the right time to take control.
LSU rallied in the sixth inning to win its first game of the 2015 season, 7-2.
Memphis (0-1) took control of the game in the 2nd inning when three hits and an LSU error gave Memphis a 2-0 lead. LSU (1-0) got one run back in the 3rd inning with a single from junior shortstop Bianka Bell, but for most of the game senior pitcher Jordan Richwood kept LSU’s bats in check.
Then LSU’s lineup surged for six runs on seven hits in the 6th inning.
Sophomore right fielder Bailey Landry singled to start the inning. Bell followed with her first home run of the season, giving LSU a 3-2 lead. LSU never looked back, putting Memphis away by scoring four more runs.
Sophomore pitcher Baylee Corbello pitched a complete game, giving up 4 hits and one earned run to go with eight strikeouts. LSU faces Eastern Illinois in Game 2 of its double-header at 6:30 p.m.
