With Valentine’s Day swiftly approaching, it only seems right to choose a character for Style Archives oozing sex appeal.
Jessica Rabbit from “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” may be a cartoon character, but she’s inspired female sex appeal since 1988. Jessica Rabbit is the wife of Roger Rabbit, who during the movie’s plot is trying to figure out what his devious wife is up to.
Now, in cartoon fashion, Jessica Rabbit has one ensemble. But, for her, that one ensemble is one inspiring evening attire and Halloween costumes.
Jessica Rabbit’s outfit consists of a sparkly, strapless red gown with leg slit, red heels and arm length blue gloves.
Now, about adapting this into your wardrobe.
Cartoons can get away with a lot of things, so this high leg slit and cleavage-baring dress is acceptable in cartoons, but not at a real-life black tie event.
However, taking this dress and altering it to fit your body will make a smashing impression at any formal event.
The tricks to tailoring a floor length gown are simple. Make sure the bottom hem hits right at the toe of your shoes and doesn’t trail on the ground. This allows for the dress to not be too short with heels and not too long without them.
If you decide to involve a slit like Jessica Rabbit, make sure it doesn’t go above mid-thigh. Otherwise, dancing and moving becomes difficult since you’ll be trying not to reveal anything all night.
Now for the bust, whether you decide to stick with the Jessica Rabbit strapless option or to add straps, making sure everything stays in the dress is critical.
Try on the gown while dancing and walking to see how the bust area of the dress moves. If it feels like you’re falling out, maybe consider a smaller size or getting it tailored. If the bust area has a small fear of becoming revealing, just invest in some dress tape. This allows for you to use skin-adhesive tape to attach the fabric to your skin, leaving the night free of any wardrobe malfunctions.
Lastly, find the gown in the shade of red that’s fitting for you. Or no red at all. Either way, just make sure Jessica Rabbit would approve of your jaw-dropping attire.
