After re-injuring his left knee late in the second quarter of Saturday evening’s loss to Alabama, LSU sophomore fullback J.D. Moore is likely out for the season, LSU coach Les Miles said Monday at his weekly news conference.
“I think J.D. may well be out for the season at this point,” Miles said.
Moore, a former walk-on, started four of the first five games of the season but suffered the initial injury in the Tigers’ 45-24 win against South Carolina on Oct. 10. He missed LSU’s next two wins against Florida and Western Kentucky.
Moore rotated with freshman fullback Bry’Kiethon Mouton in the first half against the Crimson Tide but went down on a drive that ended in a game-tying field goal and did not return.
Despite the loss of a key player, Miles was confident in the depth behind Moore.
“Obviously, one of our best fullbacks is no longer with us,” Miles said. “But the good news is that Bry’Kiethon Mouton is coming on, and we’ll have a good group there with [freshman] David Ducre. We’ll have a well-manned position.”
