Well Voodoo, it was muddy while it lasted.
The 2015 Voodoo Music and Arts Experience ended abruptly after day three’s cancellation due to severe weather. Throughout the first two days of the festival, weather was as much of a topic as who was performing. Some even predicted the impending cancellation after watching multiple weather reports.
Festival-goers prepared themselves for the forecasted heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday, but it seems their preparations were in vain after those in charge decided that the show just could not go on Sunday.
Saturday’s weather was awful, turning the ground into a muddy slip n’ slide. With more showers in the forecast, the plug was officially pulled on Voodoo day three, and ticket refunds for Sunday will be available.
The festival ending like this is underwhelming, but crowd safety is of the utmost importance. Now it’s time to commence the eulogy for Voodoo 2015.
There are a lot of great things to look back on days one and two of the festival. Florence and the Machine giving life to every person there, Santigold killing it in the rain and Ozzy Osbourne playing his many hits are just a few.
While the rain poured on day two, dryness was low but spirits remained high as people continued to party. The rain didn’t even stop some people from lighting up cigarettes and smoking while watching artists perform.
Even with the nasty weather, you couldn’t help but feel good watching so many talented musicians do their thing, and watching the audience jig along.
So long Voodoo 2015. Gone too soon, but thanks to Florence and the Machine, you won’t be forgotten in the near future.
On a sidenote, this was the first festival of my adult life. The rain hampered it a bit for me, and I now have two pairs of ruined, mud-filled shoes, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t fun.
I am sad that Zac Brown Band, Chance the Rapper and other headliners didn’t get a chance to perform, but there’s always next year. Hopefully then the weather will accommodate next time around.
