Despite the loss against Alabama, LSU fans have another reason to be proud of LSU running back Leonard Fournette and the football team.
Fournette’s game-worn jersey along with two signed helmets were auctioned off online Monday for a total of $101,000. Someone with the username “COACH” made the highest bid and won the auction. This bid may possibly break the record amount paid for a college-worn jersey. All of the proceeds from the auction will go to the victims of the South Carolina flood.
“It reminded me so much of what I went through with Katrina and knowing that we really didn’t get any help from anybody,” Fournette said. “So you know, God put me on this platform that I’m doing for this day, and why not try to help everybody else?”
Many students are proud of what Fournette is doing for others.
“I mean it was a great way to take the advantages you have and the ability you have to sell something like that for as much money as he did and then to give it to a worthy cause,” said Brendan Adcock, LSU freshman. “It’s pretty awesome.”
Adcock hopes this act of kindness allows fans to realize Fournette is more than just a football player. He is a person and a student.
“Well of course you should view him as a person,” Adcock said. “He’s a beast on the football field, but he is still a person. I mean I see him walk around the campus. He’s just another normal student. He’s just really good at football.”
