While you’re hiding from your family this holiday season, you could coop up in your room with a nice new show to binge on Netflix — “Master of None.”
This humorous show was created by and stars comedian Aziz Ansari. While the acting is spotty at times, the show is bound to make you chuckle once or twice.
“Master of None” takes you through the twists and turns in the life of the main character Dev, played by Ansari. His friends are there to guide him along the way without always knowing what the next best move is.
In the show, Ansari’s friends are played by fellow comedians Lena Waithe, Eric Wareheim and more. While this creates a funny backbone for the show, a comedy show and acting are two different tasks. Ansari seemed comfortable with portraying his character, but it took the others a few episodes to look relaxed.
The show is a Netflix exclusive, so viewers won’t be catching this once a week on their local channels. This was the best decision as more people are leaning toward Netflix’s advantage to give you a whole season at once to watch as you please.
Season one is up now with a total of 10 episodes, and in those episodes, they hit almost any and all problems an aging millennial will encounter.
The show also has a great way of approaching controversial topics such as the Plan B pill , immigration and feminism.
The feminist episode stands out among the rest, with the characters perfectly portraying the things we don’t talk about and some never come across. The characters are able to keep the serious issues lighthearted, something beneficial to the show’s script.
You most likely won’t settle down to watch this with your parents, and that’s not because it’s horribly risqué, it’s just not for that generation. It’s a new show that involves problems that we would face with everything changing so quickly.
For a first season, the show is well-written, but the acting could use some work. The show stands for something new and the attempt at changing the game is respectable.
REVIEW: ‘Master of None’ offers terrific writing, sub par acting
