LSUPD was involved in a high-speed pursuit around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning after John Rideau, 53, attempted to steal four cases of beer from a Cracker Barrel on Nicholson Drive. and fled the scene in a grey sedan driven by Catherine Lanieux, 46, according to an LSUPD report.
During the pursuit, Lanieux ran a traffic light at the intersection of East State Street and Dalrymple Drive and crashed into a traffic signal and fence, the report says. She also drove at 70 mph in a 20 mph zone on Aster Street.
After the vehicle crashed into a gas pump, Lanieux tried to hide in the bushes surrounding the LSU Lakes before her arrest, the report says.
Baton Rouge Police booked Rideau into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for theft of goods, and LSUPD booked Lanieux on counts of aggravated flight from an officer, reckless operation, resisting arrest, driver not licensed, stop sign violation and careless operation.
