The day for the Louisiana Gubernatorial election is here, and residents of the East Baton Rouge Parish are coming out to the University School at LSU to vote. The law requires you to identify yourself before voting, so make sure you bring identification when you vote.
All of the voting is electronic. That means that you step into the booth, click the boxes for the people and amendments you want to vote for, and click the orange “Cast Vote” button at the bottom right of the screen, when you are done.
Some LSU students made their way out to the voting booths early this morning to cast their votes.
“I think that for any sort of real change to come to Louisiana, especially in terms of funding for education and mental healthcare and just healthcare in general, we need to really change what we’re doing,” said LSU Senior Jake Heflin.
Apart from the office of the Governor, there are many other offices up for a vote today, and each voter is allowed to vote for one person in every category on the ballot.
People of all ages have come out to vote, but some students find it especially important to make their voices heard.
“You shouldn’t complain if you’re not voting,” said LSU Senior William Marks. “That’s really how I feel at least.”
Heflin also emphasized the power that the young voting force can have, but he said that it requires young people to come out to the polls.
Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m., and the results will be announced tonight.
