Before hopping in the car to speed off to Voodoo Music and Arts Experience, you have to make a game plan of who’s sets you’ll run to and who’s you’ll run from. It can be difficult to weigh out the good and bad with so many artists to choose from. To help, here are some hits and misses for the 2015 Voodoo lineup.
HITS:
Third Eye Blind:
Forming in 1993, the band is about as old as the audience watching it. That being said, festival goers will have an undeniable attraction to them as they grew up with the band’s music. If Third Eye Blind plays one of its classics such as “Semi-Charmed Life” everyone in the audience will be singing along and bringing back the past.
Florence and The Machine:
This fairy-like singer has a way of capturing the audience when performing. She has the energy on stage that can connect her songs directly to the listener. As the band keeps spitting out hits, everyone in the audience should be shaking it out on the grounds.
Ozzy Osbourne:
Biting bats heads off and screaming doesn’t sound great to you? Of course not. But for some reason we all accept it when Osbourne does it on stage. At the age of 66, he doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. He’s an expert on stage performance and because he has everyone from the ’70s to now hopping on the crazy train, you should make sure to see his performance.
Jack Ü:
Consisting of Mad Decent founder Diplo and OWSLA founder Skrillex, the duo has come into the music world with a bang. After releasing “Where Are U Now” with Justin Bieber, the group has captured the attention from so many different demographics. This dance music will have everyone on the grounds up and dancing.
Chance The Rapper:
Chance is an artist that is still working on making his name known, so his music should not be missed. He writes catchy songs with soft rhythms and great meaning. Also, you want to be the person who gets to say “Yeah, I saw them before they got overly popular”.
MISSES:
Gerard Way:
If you don’t recognize this name, it’s because he’s usually known for his band My Chemical Romance. While this fiery haired artist has a great sound, the audience’s familiarity holds with his old band and not as a solo act.
Zac Brown Band:
Starting in 2002, the band has picked up some popularity. However, it is still experimenting with its sound. It honestly don’t have a specific genre, which at times can be great, but not the best when you’re at a festival looking for distinct sounds.
Deadmau5:
Deadmau5, also known as Joel Thomas Zimmerman, has been around since 1998. While having a few hit songs, this artist isn’t a household name. Zimmerman may be able to add another element of dance to the show, but not with anything widely known.
Modest Mouse:
While this band has some songs increasing in popularity, it’s not music to sing along or dance to. The band was formed in 1992, but unlike Third Eye Blind, it doesn’t have that emotional connection with the crowd from growing up with it.
